My free models

I decided to release some of my models for free. You’ll find them below, as .zip files containing a .blend file. This .blend file is the 3D model, you need to download and install Blender to view them, use them or convert them to your usual 3D file format.

Please consider donate via the link on the right. It will help be writing more tutorials, and releasing more full 3D models for free. So donating is a good way to keep this site and especially this page alive. Thanks for your attention.

  1. Thanks for sharing and the tutorials, how about the model you used for your tire tutorial. I’ve been trying to model a tire and would love to see this model.

  2. I’m glad you enjoy them.

I planned to release other models, but I need some time to organize them before releasing. As I planned to release my WIP Alfa Romeo GT, you’ll be able to find the tire you mentionned within this model. It’s a Pirelli P6000.

  3. Hi Tom, you really know your stuff.
    GREAT job.
Whats the name of the program used to make these ? … is it Blender ?

I published on SMCars.net a wireframe version of the chassis : that is, no pipes, just edges, one for each pipe.

Using this mode, you’ll be able to measure length and angles using Blender. Please refer to Blender documentation to know how to do this.

The wire chassis is here : http://www.smcars.net/forums/work-progress-rendering-animation/23850-light-right-ariel-atom-ii-2.html#post169487. You’ll to register (for free) at SMC to download it.

  6. Hi Tom,

The Marcos is great. You really captured the look. It is a top class model and I can see why it would win.

Would you mind if I used the model in GT Legends, and GTR2 (the powerand glory mod) as I would love to have the Marcos 1800 Gt in the game.

I know enough people within the community that could assist with accurate data to create quality physic to do your model justice.

  7. BTW I understand that you have given permission to use the model with ackknowledgements as per the licence.

  8. gavin :

How many polys is this model?

This model is about 1.5 millions of polygons, so that means about 3 millions of tris.

It’s by far unusable in a real-time engine. The team from the Historic GT and Touring Cars (HGT&TC, it’s a rFactor-based mod) started a conversion of the very same model. You can reach them at http://historicgt.8.forumer.com/ to discuss how to merge work.

  9. Hi Tom,

Sorry to bother you again. Can you make it into a 3ds file. For GTL we need to make three different lower (and very low) poly models anyway to get it to work in game. I only am familiar with zmod at the moment and it would make it faster if I could start with a 3ds file.

    Thanks
    Gavin

  10. Hey, im really interested in taking a close look at teh Marcos. The file doesnt seem to download, any chance of getting a .3ds copy?

I’m sorry I can’t offer you all the various 3D format you can think of. I specifically choose to use .blend format because 1/ it’s open and 2/ software to read / convert it is widely available (www.blender.org) Also, converting it to a low-tech format like 3DS will make you loosing the use of the modifiers (surface subdivision, mirroring) and of the shaders.

Rpower, when saying “doesn’t seem to download”, do you really mean download or do you mean “unable to open the downloaded file” ? This is important to me, as I host the file (that is, it’s not uploaded to a 3rd party file download service)

  12. Hi Tom

Just wanted to say fantastic work, and I thank you very much for sharing your creations.

    Cheers Pete

  13. Добрый день!
Подскажите, пожалуйста, как вы для машины создавали в 3D Max’е (если это было сделано в нём) трубы, гнули их?

Sorry I don’t speak russian, so I had to use automated translator : here’s what I’ve got : “Good day!
Can you please tell how you set up the machine in 3D Max’e (if it was made in it) pipes, bent them?”

So the answer is simple : no I can’t tell you how to do in 3DS Max because I use Blender only. Sorry, you should ask on http://www.smcars.net, a great online community about blueprints and car modeling. There is plenty of Max users there, they will answer your question easily. My SMCars nickname is tom120934, see you there 😉

  15. Hi Thomas,
This is great work, congratulations on a such a good job !
I would like to ask if you could render the atom, but instead of having one central air intake, I would like it with two air intakes, one sitting over each seat.

This is what I’m building at the moment and it would be great to be able to show people exactly what I mean.
Let me know if there is a cost, and if its possible by emailing, happy to send money via paypal.
    Many thanks
    Paul

  16. Hi Tom,
Thanks for the reply, that looks good, have replied via PM, but not sure if you got the message? Did you receive it?

  18. @Tom

cant wait to get home and download blender so i can start building my dream car for real 😀

    thanks,
    jamie

  22. @Nahuel

I use the following rule : 1 Blender Unit = 1 meter. If you assumed another scale, indeed things can be messy. I’m quite confident with the dimensions, given the limit I didn’t have access to a real Atom to do a 100% accurate model.

    @albert

    You’re welcome.

  23. Hi tom
thank you for all the work that you do , i have managed to buld my arial atton from the drawings you drew
i do have them in auto cad version which we managed to convert from your drawings

  24. Hi Tom,

I’m a lecturer at University of Winchester in Digital Media. I’ve been looking for a 3D Marcos model for a while now. I own a Marcos and I would love to model one up with a view to building a scale model from our 3D Printer. Is there any chance I could download your model? I notice on your website that it is free to download but I cannot see where/how to download it. Your help is much appreciated. Thank you.

  25. Hi Paul, I’m glad my model can be useful. I would love to see some pictures of your Marcos (I’ve see the ones on your website) and of your project : if you agree, I will send you an e-mail for you to have my adress.

    BR,
    Tom

  26. Hi Tom,
Yes, that’s fine thanks. I can gladly send you some pictures of my car although I’ve got the best ones on Pinterest. My profile is ‘wilsop5’. I’m going to have to try again with converting the file because it didn’t convert. I only got what looks like the fuel cap! Don’t know what happened but maybe it will work if I try it again.

  27. Hi Tom,

No, it’s coming up with export errors when I try to export your model as an .OBJ file or even as a .3DS file. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong as I know nothing about Blender but is there any possibility you would be able to send me an .OBJ file of the whole model?
